EmboMedics is in the process of developing drug loaded and unloaded embolization materials for several Indications.
The indications include Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), Trauma, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE).
Uterine Fibroids – When very common non-cancerous growths called uterine fibroids develop in the muscle wall of the uterus, they can occur with and without symptoms. This is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure performed by an interventional radiologist to treat conditions involving the presence of the fibroid tumors by blocking their blood supply and shrinking them. During Uterine Fibroid Embolization a catheter is steered towards the artery feeding the fibroid. Microspheres are then injected to cut off blood supply to the fibroid.
Enlarged Prostate – Once approved, EmboMedics microspheres can be used for a new interventional radiology treatment that blocks blood supply to men’s enlarged prostate glands. This procedure has shown comparable clinical results to transurethral resection of the prostate (or TURP), considered the gold standard (or most common) treatment. However, this minimally invasive treatment-prostatic artery embolization-has none of the risks associated with TURP, such as sexual dysfunction, urinary incontinence, blood loss and retrograde ejaculation.
Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE)
Trans-arterial chemoembolization (TACE) combines embolization with chemotherapy. This is done by coating the small particles with chemotherapy drugs before injection. Upon Injection the microspheres block the blood supply to the tumor while releasing the chemotherapy agent to the tumor.
